Trips to the US and Canada: Special Conditions

With a Portuguese passport, for trips to the US, an ESTA (electronic travel authorization) is required — the application is submitted online and usually takes just a few minutes. For Canada, Portuguese citizens apply for an eTA online, which is valid for up to 5 years or until the passport expires, typically without the need for consulate visits or interviews.
